Tabula Rasa twentieth anniversary

It has been (almost) twenty years since Tabula Rasa was released on december 12th 2004.

The difficult second album.

Tabula Rasa was produced by Klaus Schønning and recorded in Klaus’ studio between 2002 and 2004.

Around 2001 I was approached by Klaus who I'd known for a few years by then.
Klaus suggested we did an album together, and I happily agreed.
That album became Tabula Rasa, but it wasn't quite as easy to record as one might have hoped. And I have to admit that the problem was with me and that I made two big mistakes.
The first mistake was to suggest that we simply record a six-movement suite I had composed in my teenage years.
The second mistake was not letting Klaus Schønning be Klaus Schønning.

At this time I spent a lot of time with classical musicians, and in the classical circles it was seen as a quality to show up with finished arrangements. So I brought a finished score to Klaus. It just meant that Klaus' role became that of a mere craftsman, without actual artistic input.

I have later apologized for this approach to Klaus, and we have produced much more exciting and more artisticly balanced music together like 'Garden of Exile' or 'The Drake Equation'.

To mark the twentieth anniversary, four bonus tracks have been released on bandcamp.

1: Tabula Tertius Live - I've only played music from Tabula Rasa live twice, and only one occation was recorded. This recording is from the concert 'a prayer for Ukraine' held on 24 February 2024.
2: Tabula Sextus Demo -  An excerpt from the demo tape as an example of how Tabula Rasa sounded before Klaus Schønning got involved.
3: Tabula Secundus Benevolentia Mix - Benevolentia was an attempt to make an alternative album based on the criticism Tabula Rasa received in the press after its release. Wisely, the idea was quickly abandoned.
4: Tabula Qvintus Session - The second half of Tabula Qvintus is the only section of the album that was not composed. The music was created in a jam session at Klaus Schønning's studio on modular synthesizers and mixed down as stereo tracks on minidisc. This is the full unedited session.
